Doses
- Three doses of the vaccine is required (prevenar or synflorix)
- the first two doses at age two months and three months and the schedule for the third dose depends on which vaccine is given but usually completed by age 13 months
Pneumococcus
Pneumococcal infections are caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae and can lead to pneumonia, septicaemia and meningitis.
A booster dose is required for children at risk of serious illness these include sickle cell disease and also adults over age 60 years.
